Marlyn Glen welcomed the decision to abandon the community health nurse model saying that it was ” a return to common sense.”
She said, “Nurses have made a resounding case that the amalgamation of specialist nursing posts into a one-nurse-fits-all approach would reduce the quality of nursing service.
” I am delighted their expressions of concern with the community health nurse pilot scheme have now been vindicated
” A lot of NHS money, effort and time was spent on this pilot scheme in NHS Tayside.
” However, it is time now to look to the future role of nursing in the community that focuses on the needs of particular age groups and the particular nursing skills they require.”
Ms. Glen added that she would now be raising with NHS Tayside the future of community nursing after the demise of the pilot scheme.
