Speaking before the meeting with Enterprise Minister Jim Mather in the City Chambers later today (Monday 16th.), Marlyn Glen said,
“I shall be asking the Minister how much more money will be invested in retraining those amongst this skilled and loyal workforce whose jobs are to vanish.
“I want to know if any apprentices are involved and if the Scottish Government will now guarantee the completion of their training.
“The latest annual figures show that the number of apprenticeship starts in the city was 333 which was the lowest in 5 years.
“Similarly, the number of adult apprenticeships at 135 was the lowest in the same period.
” Manufacturing industry, once the engine of the local economy, now accounts for just 7,600 in the city.
“It still remains a key sector in the city’s economy, and so it requires stronger Government assistance.”
